GUIDELINES FOR CONTRIBUTORS

Unsolicited manuscripts pertaining to any of the topics listed under the journal's Subject Classifications are welcome and may be submitted to the journal.

The Journal of Global Buddhism publishes material in the following four categories:

  1. Research Articles (5,000 words and over)
  2. Discussions and Critical Notes (2,000 words or less)
  3. Bulletins (1,000 words or less)
  4. Book Reviews

Research Articles Research Articles will present original research in any of the ten areas under the journal's list of Subject Classifications. Articles will normally be over 5,000 words but not exceeding 7,500.

Contributors are welcome to contact the editors beforehand to discuss proposals or for guidance regarding the sorts of topics which are suitable for publication in the journal. Research articles will be subject to blind peer review by appropriate members of the Editorial Board or external evaluators selected at the editors' discretion.

Research articles must be submitted according to the Submission Procedures described below.

Discussions and Critical Notes Not exceeding 2,000 words, discussions and critical notes may reflect a variety of applications. They may be mini-research articles, interim reports on research in progress, or proposals for future research. They may also be used to comment on or respond to research published in the journal and elsewhere.

Discussions and critical notes may be sent to the journal either as e-mail or in the format described below under Submission Procedures. Discussions and critical notes will also be subject to blind peer review.

Bulletins Bulletins are short pieces which provide news and information about publications or forthcoming events such as conferences. The purpose of the bulletins section of the journal is to provide a one-stop source of information which will keep readers up to date with developments in the discipline.

Bulletins will normally be submitted in the form of a simple e-mail message.

Book Reviews As appropriate, the journal will publish reviews of various materials addressing issues which are included under the journal's Subject Classifications.

Publishers or others wishing to have books, audio tapes, videotapes, software or other publications in any media reviewed should send copies for consideration to the book review editor, at the address listed below:

Submission Procedures The process of submission is designed to be as simple as possible. Manuscripts can be submitted for consideration in any popular word processing format (e.g., WordPerfect, Microsoft Word, etc.). Either IBM PC or Macintosh format is acceptable.   1. All submissions should be preceded by a header containing the title of the manuscript, the name(s) of the author(s), any affiliations, mail and email addresses, and telephone numbers. The header should be formatted as in the following example:

    a) Title: Title of Submission
    b) Author(s): A.N. Author
    c) Word length: 6,500 words
    d) Date of submission: 1 November 1994
    e) Address:
        Name of Institution
        Name of Department
        Full Postal Address
        Email Address
        Telephone Number
  2. Please include an abstract of no more than 150 words after the header.
  3. Send the wordprocessor file as an attachment to an email message to the Editors. You can also send it on a disk.
  4. Please state the Wordprocessor you have used (e.g., Word for Windows v.6).
  5. If you have used a special diacritic font please give the name (e.g., Indic Transliterator, CS Bitstream Charter, etc). For Transliteration issues, see the JGB Style Guide (link above).
Note: Authors of accepted manuscripts assign to Journal of Global Buddhism the right to publish the text both electronically and in any other format and to make it available permanently in an electronic archive.
